NORTON, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (5-2-0, 1-1-0 NEWMAC) earned their first NEWMAC victory of the season as they scored in each half to propel them to a 2-0 victory over Wheaton (4-3-2, 1-1-1 NEWMAC) on Wednesday afternoon from Christina Mirrione Stadium.
Through the month of September, Clark has scored two or more goals in all seven matches they have competed in.
How it Happened
- Senior Ava Lepro tallied the first save of the game in the sixth minute off a shot from Karina Contreras before junior Selene Hammad created Clark's first chance of the afternoon that was stopped by Olivia King in the 16th minute.
- In the 22nd minute, Hammad sent a ball over to sophomore Kory Lloyd and Lloyd fired a shot from outside the box with her right foot that went into the back left corner of the net as the Cougars took a 1-0 lead.
- Lepro tallied two more saves and both first-year Layla Keltai and junior Georgia Louis fired shots on goal that were saved as Clark led 1-0 at the half.
- Senior Gabrielle Huryn started the second half in goal and stopped a pair of shots within the first eight minutes of action to keep the Cougars in the lead.
- Louis dribbled up the right side of the pitch in the 63rd minute, entered the box, and fired a left footed shot that found the back of the net as Clark held a 2-0 advantage.
- Huryn kept the clean sheet in tact with four saves over the remainder of the game, while sophomore Marcela Gonyea created a chance that was stopped as the Cougars registered their second shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory.
