Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Fall on the Road at Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Clark University men's soccer (1-1) traveled south for their first road challenge at Union College (1-1). Following a back-and-forth first half, the Garnet Chargers used two goals, two minutes apart, to pull away and win 2-0 on their home field. 

How it Happened

  • Both teams earned corners in the first ten minutes, but the first shot didn't come until the 17th minute off the boot of sophomore Jacob Ordonez. Union responded with two shots of their own, but one sailed wide and the other was blocked. 

  • First-year Jake DiOrio would have the next shot of the game in the 34th minute, with Union again adding two off-target shots in the 42nd and 43rd minutes. The half would end without a shot on goal and the score deadlocked at 0-0.

  • Union would generate the first five shots of the second half, with the fifth saved away by senior Jaime Pedraza for the first shot on goal in the 55th minute. 

  • Following two more errant attempts from the Garnet Chargers, DiOrio would find some space and narrowly miss the top right corner of the goal on his second shot of the night. 

  • Union would break through in the 71st minute with Diogo Charraz gathering a deflected pass and finding the bottom right corner of the net to make it 1-0. 

  • Two minutes later London Abbott would gather a pass in the center of the box before firing to the bottom left corner of the net to double the lead for the Garnet Chargers. 

  • Senior Charles Lopez would record the first shot on goal for the Cougars in the 80th minute, redirecting a cross on goal with a header. 

  • In the 85th minute, Pedraza would add another save on what would ultimately be the final shot on goal of the game, as the final horn sounded with Union in front 2-0. 

Inside the Box Score

  • First-year William Roderick, senior Myles Nelson-Atkins, sophomore Jacob Ordonez, and first-year Nicholas Dorr played the full 90 minutes for the Cougars in the effort.

  • Lopez fired the lone shot on goal for Clark, his first shot on goal of the season. 

  • Pedraza played the full game in net, making a pair of saves.
