Springfield, Mass. – Both the Clark
men's and women's cross country teams had their best
performance to date under new head coach Brian
Burlas with a pair of top five finishes at the Western New
England College Invitational on Saturday morning.
Junior Isabel Burgess (Cumberland Foreside,
Maine) anchored the women's team's second place finish
with her seventh place showing and freshman Robert Gammell
(Mattapoisett, Mass.) had his best collegiate outing with
a fifth place finish in leading the Cougars to a third place
result.
On the women's side, Burgess, may have been Clark's
top finisher but both sophomore Erika Roth (Saco,
Maine) and senior Heather Goodale (Middletown,
Conn.) were in the top ten, posting ninth and tenth place finishes
respectively.
The men, meanwhile had Robert Naughton (Holliston, Mass.) right
on Gammell's heels with a sixth place turnout and freshman
Kiefer Boguhn (Bath, Maine) had a 27 th place showing to finish as
Clark's third finisher.
Endicott took home the women's title and host Western New
England claimed the men's crown.
Each team's performance bodes well for the New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Championships
which is being hosted by Clark at Moore State Park in two
weeks.
