Worcester, Mass. – Powered by a pair of
doubles wins and five singles wins, visiting Wellesley College
knocked off host Clark, 7-2 in New England Women's and
Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis
action on Saturday.
Diana Granger was a double winner for Wellesley, teaming with
Jacqueline Chen to win at No. 1 doubles (8-3) and then defeated
Emily Schweitzer (Northampton, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0 at
No. 5 singles.
Clark's two victories came at No. 1 singles and No. 2
doubles. Gaby Suriano (San Salvador, El Salvador)
won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. The Cougars' second win came
behind Schweitzer and Julia Bergeron who won 8-4
over Nathalie Herman/Morgan Johnstonbaugh.
The Cougars continue conference play on Tuesday at Mount
Holyoke, while Wellesley hosts MIT.
