South Hadley, Mass. – The Mount
Holyoke College women's tennis team rolled to a convincing
9-0 triumph over Clark University this afternoon at the Mount
Holyoke Field House. It was the Lyons 14th straight win over their
New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) counterparts.
Senior Natalie Hsiang, senior Elise Marifian, first-year Maya
Sayarath and junior Sarah Moore each posted wins at both singles
and doubles to lead the way.
Mount Holyoke swept the three doubles contests to set the tone
in the early going. Hsiang and Moore cruised to an 8-0 win at the
number one slot, while first years AnnElizabeth Konkel and Kelsey
Brower added an 8-4 victory at the number two position. The Lyons
number three tandem of Sayarath and Marifian also came out of top
in their match. They prevailed 8-1 for their third triumph of the
fall.
The hosts then closed things out with six more wins on the
singles side. From one to six, the lineup featured sophomore
Nahrhee Han, Hsiang, Marifian, Sayarath, junior Heather Richardson
and Moore.
Sayarath has now collected five straight singles victories.
Both squads are slated to take the courts again on Saturday.
Mount Holyoke (2-5, 2-3 NEWMAC) will host Wheaton College at 1:00
p.m., while Clark (3-5, 0-4 NEWMAC) will visit Babson College for a
match beginning at 10:00 a.m.
