Box Score Worcester, Mass. - Clark scored the game's
final six runs - highlighted by Phil DiMarco's
(Bellingham, Mass.) inside-the-park homerun in the bottom of the
sixth - to knock off visiting Framingham State, 11-6, on Thursday
afternoon on Granger Field.
With the win the Cougars improve to 6-7 overall, while the Rams
slip to 5-7.
After Framingham took a 1-0 lead in the first, Clark answered back
almost immediately as Stephen DeMartino (East
Haven, Conn.) crushed a homerun to left field to lead off the
frame. The Cougars went on to add another run in the inning and
then three more in the second on a Ron Bathrick
(North Haven, Conn.) two-run single and a DiMarco groundout.
The Rams bats came to life in the third when they pushed four runs
across on separate two-run singles by Danny Chiasson and Steven
Tramontozzi to even the score.
Framingham then took the lead in the fourth on a Cory Ketterer
double to left, making the score 6-5.
That lead proved to be short-lived however, as Kevin Kopec (Katonah, N.Y.), Mitch DeLorenzo
(Berlin, Conn.) and Peter Lewis (Gardiner, Maine)
all drove in runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Clark scored another run in the fifth when Derek Dubois (Haverhill, Mass.) singled, stole second and then
came around to score on a pair of wild pitches.
Jonathan Merritt (Milton, Mass.) picked up his
career-high tying third win of the season for the Cougars, going
5.2 innings, allowing eight hits, six runs (only one earned), while
striking out five and walking none.
Framingham reliever Kevin Loveless, who came in after starter Tommy
Lindberg lasted only two innings, took the loss following his two
innings of work in which he allowed four hits and three earned
runs.
Dubois led the Cougar attack with a career-best 3-for-4 day with
two runs scored, while DeMartino, DiMarco and Kopec all had two
hits.
Ketterer, meanwhile, paced the Rams with a 3-for-5 showing and a
pair of doubles.
Framingham is back in action on Friday when they visit Rhode Island
College, while Clark returns to NEWMAC action on Saturday with a
road doubleheader at Coast Guard.
