Cougars Come Up Short In NEWMAC Opener

Worcester, Mass. - The Babson College women's tennis team opened its conference schedule with a dominating performance at Clark University on Sunday afternoon, as the Beavers shutout the Cougars, 9-0.

With the win, Babson remains unbeaten at 3-0 (1-0 NEWMAC), while Clark slips to 1-3 (0-1 NEWMAC).

The Beavers began with a sweep of the doubles matches, including an 8-4 win at number one by senior captain Jes Huang and sophomore Rebecca Stone. Senior captains Liz Sheerin and Lorena Becerra teamed up for a convincing 8-0 triumph at two, and sophomore Carolina Baez and junior Caroline Hobert won their match at three by a score of 8-2.

Babson continued to roll in singles play, with Huang posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at one and Stone adding a 6-1, 6-2 victory at two. Junior Monica Mercer mounted a 6-1, 6-3 win at three, first-year Victoria Lorido added her first collegiate victory, 6-0, 6-3, at four, sophomore Gabriela Baez recorded a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at five, and Carolina Baez capped off the win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at six.
