Paxton, Mass. - The Clark University women's
tennis team defeated Anna Maria College 9-0 on Thursday afternoon
at Wachusett High School.
The victory improves the Cougars record to 2-4 overall,
remaining at 0-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference. With the loss, the AMCATS drop to 2-7 overall while
staying put at 0-6 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
The Cougars began the day by taking all three doubles matches. The
duos of Julia Bergeron (Lewiston,
Maine)/Andrea Nathan (Saddle River, N.J.) and
Emily Schweitzer (Northampton,
Mass.)/Phoebe Livingston (Jamestown, R.I.) each
earned 8-2 victories while Kristen Cullity
(Carver, Mass.) and Martha Ziemer (Arlington,
Mass.) were flawless in an 8-0 win.
Clark clinched the win by taking all six singles matches. Bergeron,
Schweitzer, Cullity, and Ziemer all earned victories without
dropping a single game (6-0, 6-0). Nathan won her No. 2 singles
match in straight sets (6-2, 6-2), while Livingston won 6-0, 6-3 in
No. 5 singles.
Both teams will return to the courts on Saturday for conference
matches, Clark will travel to face Wellesley at 1:00 pm while Anna
Maria will host Nichols College at 10:00 am.
