Wellesley, Mass. - The Wellesley College tennis
team continued strong NEWMAC play with a 9-0 sweep over Clark
University on Saturday afternoon. The Blue improve to 2-0 (2-0
NEWMAC) while Clark falls to 2-6, 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
Wellesley took a 3-0 lead in doubles after Mohona Siddique (Chevy
Chase, MD) and Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) ran their
season record to 4-1 with an 8-1 victory over Clark's Julia
Bergeron (Lewiston, Maine) and Andrea
Nathan (Saddle River, N.J.).
At second doubles, Marie Wantanabe (Houston, TX) and Stephanie
Chu (Hilo HI) were 8-0 winners over Emily
Schweitzer (Northampton, Mass.) and Phoebe
Livingston (Jamestown, R.I.) while in the third spot,
Sanam Sidhu (Fresno, CA) and Elena Bowen (Yardley, PA) paired up
for an 8-6 victory over Kristin Cullity (Carver,
Mass.) and Jenni Adams (Englewood, Colo).
In singles, Wellesley cruised to wins in each of the flights, with
all of their matches decided in two sets. Watanabe was a 6-0, 6-1
winner over Bergeron, Siddique won 6-0, 6-3 over Nathan and Herman
was a 6-0, 6-3 winner against Schweitzer.
In the second half of the ladder, Julia Cole (Fairfield, CT) won
6-2, 6-0 over Cullity, Bowen was a 6-1, 6-1 winner against
Livingston and Mariya Chokova (Kazanlak, Bulgaria) wrapped up the
victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jakubski.
Wellesley returns to the court on Tuesday in a NEWMAC match at
Wheaton at 4:00pm. Clark is also back in action on Tuesday, hosting
a conference match against Springfield at 5:00pm.
