Springfield, Mass. -  The Springfield College women's basketball team used a dominating second-half performance to cruise to a 70-39 win over visiting Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon in Blake Arena.

The game was played as part of the WBCA "Pink Zone" initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer, as well as part of National Girls & Women in Sport Day.

Victors of six consecutive games, Springfield now stands at 11-12 overall, 11-5 in conference play. Clark's record drops to 8-15 overall, 7-9 against league foes.

With the win, Springfield clinches a berth in the NEWMAC postseason tournament as one of the top six teams in the conference.

After holding a 31-26 lead at the half, Springfield held Clark to just 13 points in the second half as it won by 31.

Springfield had three players reach double figures in the scoring column, led by senior guard Abby Connors' (Douglas, Mass.) game-high 18 points. Sophomore guard Colleen Dignum (Albany, N.Y.) came off the bench to net 14 points, while junior forward Kelly Slattery (Somers, Conn.) added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Sophomore guard Meghan Biondolillo (Levittown, N.Y.) also chipped in nine points, while freshman forward Tamara Tribble (White Plains, N.Y.) tallied six points and added seven rebounds.

Springfield shot the ball extremely well in the game, especially from long range. The Pride shot 43.3% for the game (26-of-60), including a 14-of-25 performance in the second half. The Pride went 12-of-22 (54.5%) from downtown, burying seven of 12 attempts in the final 20 minutes.

The contest was a struggle offensively for the Cougars for most of the game as they connected on just 30 percent of their shots (13-for-43), including just four of 21 second half attempts.

After committing 33 turnovers in Wednesday's loss to Smith, Clark had 27 more miscues in this contest.

For the Cougars, freshman guard Ashleigh Condon (Hull, Mass.) scored 16 of her team's 39 points in the game. Freshman forward Megan Grondin (Cumberland, Maine) added seven points. Sophomore forward Kelsey Giedymin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) pulled down a team-best five boards.

After falling behind by as many as five in the early going, Springfield opened up a four-point lead at 17-13, on a Dignum three at the 9:53 mark.

The Cougars battled back to even the game at 25 after junior forward Kate Minister (Manchester, England) buried a three at the 2:52 mark. Springfield responded with a pair of threes of their own from Dignum and Biondolillo and went into the half with a 31-26 lead.

In the seond half, SC scored seven of the first eight points to up its lead to 38-27 with 18:07 left.

Grondin hit two free throws for the Cougars, but Springfield then tallied the next 12 points.

When Biondolillo hit a 3-pointer with 12:18 left, the Pride led 51-29.

When Connors hit another three with 1:43 left, Springfield had its largest lead at 70-37.

Clark, which has now dropped three straight, will entertain Babson on Wednesday in the program's final home contest of the year and the annual breast cancer awareness game.
