Roth, Burgess Shine At City Championships

Paxton, Mass. – Junior Erika Roth (Saco, Maine) and senior Isabel Burgess (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) both turned in top five performances and Clark finished third at the 45th annual Worcester City Cross Country Championships at Moore State Park on Saturday morning.

Roth had the best performance of her career, completing the 5K course in 21:25, good for second place behind defending meet champion Vicky Hewey of WPI.

Burgess, meanwhile, finished the course layout in 21:40, good for fifth place and shaving nearly 40 seconds off of her time from a season ago. In addition, she was honored with the Brian Savilonis Award, given to the top senior runner at the event.

The remaining trio of scoring runners for the Cougars all finished in the top 20, led by Heather Goodale (Middletown, Conn.) in 13th place in a time of 22:03.

Rounding out Clark's top five were freshmen Maya Grevatt (Charlotte, Vt.), who posted the best showing of her young career with a 15th place finish in 22:14 and Marlena Springstubb (Oceanside, N.Y.), who also registered a career-best outing with a 20th place finish (22:34).

On the men's side, Nathan Buck (Portland, Maine) was again the Cougars top finisher of the five mile race in 13th place with a time of 30:08. Because Clark was unable to field five runners, they didn't register in the team scoring.

Both the men's and women's teams are back in action next week when they take part in the Tri-States Invitational at CCRI.
