Springfield, Mass. - Host Springfield swept all three doubles matches en route to a rain-shortened 5-0 win over Clark in NEWMAC women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.
At No. 1 doubles, the SC duo of junior Sam Carney and sophomore Jen Cleary bested Clark senior Julia Bergeron (Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.), 8-0.
Then at No. 3 doubles, the Pride pair of Vanessa Senecal and Sydney Streimer defeated Virginia Cooke (Shelton, Conn.) and Rose Burberry-Martin (Uxbridge, Mass.), 8-2.
Kristen Cullity (Carver, Mass.) and Maggie Swann (Portland, Maine) put up the best fight for the Cougars at No. 2 doubles but eventually fell to Erin Woodbury and Siana Greene, 8-6.
The singles matches were played indoors and Springfield won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, giving them the match. It was Woodbury, playing at No. 3 singles, defeating Swann, 6-2, 6-0 and Carney at No. 1, defeating Sachs, 6-1, 6-3.
Clark, now 0-5 and 0-4 in NEWMAC play, returns to action on Tuesday when they host Mount Holyoke beginning at 5:00 p.m.
