Cougars Drop Season Finale To MIT, 3-0

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Visiting MIT secured the fifth and final spot in the upcoming New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament with a 3-0 win over host Clark University on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Engineers improve to 11-4-1 overall, while Clark sees its first season under head coach Matt O'Toole end at 8-10.

MIT got on the board in the eighth minute of the match when a handball was called inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick. John Kramer (Glastonbury, Conn.) calmly deposited his sixth goal of the season with a blast into the upper right corner.

The Engineers looked as if they were about to add to their total in the 25th minute when Ben Lewis (West Hartford, Conn.) broke through the defense and fired a shot on Clark netminder Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.). King, however, was able to deflect Lewis' shot with his hand and send it over the crossbar at 24:50.

MIT did tack on a goal in the final minute when Alexander Dago (Chicago, Ill.) gathered a loose ball out in front of the net and beat king to the lower right corner at 44:27.

The only goal scored in the second half came early on as Nick Diamantoni (Belle Mead, N.J.) and Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.Y.) worked the give-and-go perfectly for Diamantoni's fourth goal of the season at 51:14.

MIT had a 16-10 edge in shots and a commanding 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Jake Amereno (Commack, N.Y.) turned back four shots to collect his first collegiate shutout. King, meanwhile, playing in his final collegiate contest, stopped five shots for the Cougars.
