Worcester, Mass. – Visiting MIT swept through doubles play with relative ease en route to a 7-2 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

The Engineers improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in league play, while the Cougars dip to 5-7 and 0-3 in conference action.

Still riding high after their 6-3 win over eight-time defending league champion Wellesley College, MIT won all three doubles matches, including an 8-0 win at No. 3 by Vynnie Kong (Cupertino, Calif.) and Meghana Vasireddy (Golden Valley, Minn.) over Martha Ziemer (Arlington, Mass.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine).

Clark was able to pick up a pair of wins in singles action led by Gaby Suriano (San Salvador, El Salvador) collecting a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 grudge match over Kong at No.1.

MIT meanwhile rolled through several singles matches as Ava Soleimany (Newport Beach, Calif.) topped Ziemer in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, while Alana Peters (Kenilworth, Ill.) dropped Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4.

Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) had little trouble at No. 2 with Sarah Sachs (North Branford, Conn.), knocking her off 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and Vasireddy upended Maggie Swann (Portland, Maine) 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3.

Clark's other win came at No. 6, where Snyder posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nina Yang (Tualitin, Ore.).

The Cougars and Engineers return to the court on Tuesday with league road trips. Clark visits Mount Holyoke, while MIT travels to Babson.
