Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Daniel Webster scored seven runs in the final two innings to break open a close contest and post a 13-7 win over Clark University in non-league baseball action on Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Ryan Dupont (Merrimack, N.H.) drove in a career-best five runs on three hits to lead the Eagle offensive attack. Joining him with a stellar day at the plate was junior Rich Lizzote (West Warwick, R.I.) went 2-for-5 with a double, a homerun, two RBI and three runs scored.
Zack Hurley (Hudson, N.H.) got the win on the mound for Daniel Webster, going six innings, scattering nine hits and giving up four earned runs.
Clark held a 2-1 lead in the first after Ian Farrell (Bethany, Conn.) drove in a run with a ground out and Nicholas Kellogg (Florence, Mass.) pushed another across with a sacrifice fly.
Lizzote smashed his second homerun of the season in the fourth - a two run shot to left - to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead.
The Cougars answered back with two runs in the fifth on a single to center by Shawn Lamothe (Bellingham, Mass.) and a sacrifice fly by Brian Sullivan (Auburn, Mass.).
Undeterred, Daniel Webster scored three more runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by a two-run single by Dupont.
The Cougars looked as if they would bring the game closer when they loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but could only get one run across on a James Cadogan (Ipswich, Mass.) fielder's choice.
Daniel Webster then scored four runs in the top of the eighth, including pushing a run across on a suicide squeeze by Nate Marshall (Groveton, N.H.).
The three runs the Eagles scored in the ninth came on a fielder's choice, a wild pitch and a Dupont single to left.
The game featured 11 pitchers, including six by Clark.
Matthew Bohl (Amherst, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with three walks and a pair of stolen bases for the Cougars, while Lamothe went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Matt Asdornvuttikrai (Winchester, Mass.), meanwhile, had two hits and two walks.
Clark (3-11) returns to the diamond on Saturday with a doubleheader against Norwich beginning at 7:00 p.m., while the Eagles play host to Southern Vermont on Saturday as well.
