Box Score 2 Auburndale, Fla. – After dropping its first three games of the season, Clark University bounced back in a big way, outscoring their first three games output with an 8-4 win over Mount Union College, then falling 10-6 to the Raiders in the nightcap on Monday evening.
Brian Sullivan (Auburn, Mass.) tossed a complete game seven-hitter in leading the Cougars to the win, while freshman Matt Asdornvuttikrai (Winchester, Mass.) had two hits and drove in three runs to pace the offensive attack.
Down for most of the game, Clark struck for five runs in the top of the seventh to erase a 4-3 deficit – all with two outs. Matthew Bohl (Amherst, Mass.) tied the game with his second run scoring single of the game, and after the Cougars loaded the bases, Asdornvuttikrai cleared them with a double to center field.
Game two actually saw Clark take a 3-2 lead after one inning following a Shawn Lamothe (Bellingham, Mass.) two-run double and a Daniel Lima (Manchester, Conn.) RBI single.
The Raiders, however, took the lead right back in the top of the second, plating four runs – three of them coming on a bases clearing triple by Evan Knott.
Mount Union added two runs in the fifth on a Jimmy Dobran double and then tacked on two more in the sixth on a two-run single by Justin Jakubik.
Clark tried to rally, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh on a Nicholas Kellogg (Florence, Mass.) double, a Lamothe groundout and an Austin Knief (Scarsdale, N.Y.) infield hit, but in the end the Raider combination of Tom Bekelsky and Mike Horning proved to be too much on the mound. That duo produced 11 strikeouts, with Bekelsky picking up his first win of the season.
The Cougars are off until Thursday when they entertain Colby-Sawyer for a pair of games beginning at 10:30 a.m.
