Cambridge, Mass. – Host MIT won its sixth straight match to remain undefeated on the season, moving past visiting Clark University 9-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the du Pont Tennis Center.
MIT quickly went up 2-0 in the match with 8-0 wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 Engineer team of seniors Lauren Quisenberry (Corpus Christi, Texas) and Julia Hsu (Knoxville, Tenn.) completed the sweep of the doubles matchups with an 8-2 decision over senior Sara Sachs (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.).
Clark (2-9, 0-5 NEWMAC) could not put a dent in the MIT advantage in the early singles matches as the Engineers scored 6-0, 6-0 victories in each of the top four flights to clinch the team victory.
Sophomore Ava Soleimany (Newport Beach, Calif.) picked up the eighth point for MIT with her 6-2, 6-0 win over freshman Ellie Bakalchuk (Newton, Mass.). Junior Nina Yang (Tualatin, Ore.) finished things off in the No. 6 match, battling her way past freshman Jen Comi (Norwich, Vt.) by a final of 6-4, 6-1.
MIT will be on the road in its next action as it continues in NEWMAC play with a match at Wheaton College on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1:00 p.m. Clark will also be in conference play on Saturday when as it hosts Mount Holyoke at 1:00 p.m.
