Norton, Mass. – Playing their final fall season match under first-year head coach Helaine Vrana, visiting Clark University dropped a 9-0 decision to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Wheaton College in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts.
The Lyons lineup featured five double-winners including seniors Lyndsay Cooke, Morgan Bell, Sarah Crom, Jessica Moore, and freshman Amanda Brazell.
In doubles play, Cooke and junior Alexandra Marlowe teamed up for an 8-0 victory over Clark senior Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) at No.1.
Bell and Brazell defeated sophomores Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) by an 8-0 score at No.2, while Crom and Moore also shut out their opponents at No. 3 doubles.
Cooke bested Sachs in straight-sets at No.1 singles to jumpstart the Lyons. Bell turned in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hughes at No. 2 and Brazell posted a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3.
Crom secured a straight-sets win against Snyder, while Wheaton sophomore Caroline DiNicola-Fawley handed Clark freshman Ellie Bakalchuk (Newton, Mass.) the same fate at No. 5 singles.
Moore rounded out singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph versus Clark freshman Jen Comi (Norwich, Vt.).
Wheaton (8-2, 6-2 NEWMAC) wraps up dual match action tomorrow at noon on the road against Colby College.
Clark finishes with a 2-13 record overall and 0-8 showing in the NEWMAC.
