Beavers Spoil Senior Day With 9-0 Win

Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Babson College moved one step closer to securing one of the seven spots in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis postseason tournament with a 9-0 win over Clark University on Wednesday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

The win for the Beavers in a match that was being made up after a postponement back in September, pushes their record to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in league play, while the Cougars have dropped eight consecutive matches to fall to 2-12.

This afternoon's match was also the home finale for a trio of Clark seniors – Rose Burberry-Martin (Hopedale, Mass.), Molly Igo (Clinton, Mass.) and Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.).

After a prematch ceremony to honor the three, Babson promptly went out and won all three doubles matches led by Alex Freeman (Medfield, Mass.) and Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) pushing past Sachs and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) 8-1 at No. 1.

They were followed by Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) and Alexis Ferraro (Coral Gables, Fla.) at No. 2 who blanked Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) and Ellie Bakalchuk (Newton, Mass.) 8-0.

Courtney Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.) and Sarah Calmas (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Jen Comi (Northfield, Vt.) and Igo at No. 3.

All six singles matches were of the straight set variety, highlighted by Paolino's 6-0, 6-0 win over Snyder at No. 4 and Ferraro's 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Kravetz.

In other singles matches, Freeman topped Sachs, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Weick moved past Hughes, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.

Fischer was victorious at No. 5 over Bakalchuk (6-3, 6-0) and Calmas rounded out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Igo at No. 6.

Clark will see its season come to an end on Saturday when it visits Wheaton, while Babson is also back in action on Saturday with a road tilt at Mount Holyoke.
