Box Score Winter Haven, Fla. – Penn State-Abington erupted for 17 runs, including four in the bottom of the first and eventually collected a 17-3 win over Clark University in the Cougars' season-opener at Chain Of Lakes Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions had four players record at least two hits led by Daniel Hill, who collected three hits and three RBI.
Connor Macfa was excellent on the mound for PSU-Abington, tossing seven innings, allowing just two hits and three earned runs.
Clark got all three of its runs in the eighth when Dennis Glynn (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) scored on a Michael Eglow (Delmar, N.Y.) sacrifice fly. David Eschen (New York, N.Y.) then drove in Nicholas O'Brien (Potomac, Md.) and Andrew Doolittle (Hebron, Conn.) knocked in Daniel Lima (Manchester, Conn.) with a single to left.
Luke Crocker (Strafford, Vt.) took the loss for the Cougars, allowing 11 runs – eight of which were earned – and 12 hits.
The Cougars are back in action on Sunday with a doubleheader against Rivier University.
