Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University snapped a four-match losing streak with a convincing 7-2 win over Worcester-city rival Anna Maria on Tuesday afternoon on the Corash Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-4 overall, while the AMCATS see their record dip below .500 at 2-3.
The Scarlet and White came out strong, winning two of the three doubles matches, highlighted by 8-4 victories at No. 1 and No. 3. At first doubles, Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) teamed up to knock off Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) and Jessica Gautieri (North Attleboro, Mass.), then Jen Comi (Norwich, Vt.) and Molly Igo (Clinton, Mass.) ousted Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, Conn.) and Kayla Buck (Wilbraham, Mass.) at No. 3.
Anna Maria's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Emily Williamson (Spencer, Mass.) and Victoria Minotti (Shelton, Conn.) defeated Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Ellie Bakalchuck (Newton, Mass.), 8-2.
Clark continued its strong play in singles action where Hughes (No. 1), Kravetz (No. 3) and Igo (No. 6) all scored straight set wins.
Snyder got the win at No. 2 over Gautieri after she retired in the second set and Comi came back to win the third set after dropping the first to Edelson at No. 5.
Anna Maria had a singles win at No. 4, where Minotti recorded a straight set win over Bakalchuk, 6-2, 6-1.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday when they open up league play against Wellesley, while the AMCATS face off with Becker on Friday.
