Wellesley, Mass. – Host Wellesley College rolled to an impressive win over Clark University, dispatching the Cougars 9-0, at home in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
The win lifts the Blue to 4-1 overall, 3-1 in NEWMAC play, while Clark falls to 2-5, 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
Wellesley surrendered just two games in doubles and five in singles, dominating the match from top to bottom. First-years Carina Chen, Samantha Stone, Caroline Dickensheets, and Dasha Kostikina, and senior Kendall Tada all won twice, with Dickensheets not allowing a game against her in either singles or doubles.
The Blue set the tone of the match early, putting all three doubles matches away early. Wellesley's third pair of Kostikina and Dickensheets were off the court first, combining for an 8-0 win over Clark's Molly Igo (Clinton, Mass.) and Jen Comi (Norwich, Vt.).
At one doubles, Sojung Lee and Chen paired up for an 8-0 win over Sarah Sachs and Phoebe Hughes to make it 2-1. Wrapping up doubles action, Tada and Stone defeated Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine), 8-2, at two, to make it 3-0 Wellesley heading into the break.
Singles showed more of the same dominance, as the Blue recorded six straight-set victories. At one, Chen easily handled her first match of the year at the top of the line-up, recording a 6-0, 6-0, win over Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.), while at two Andjela Stojkovic dispatched Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.), 6-0, 6-0.
In the middle of the line-up, Wellesley's Tada and Stone each blanked their opponents, as Tada won 6-0, 6-0, over Kravetz at three, and Stone went 6-0, 6-0, over Snyder at four.
Rounding out the singles action, the Blue's Dickensheets finished her day with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Ellie Bakalchuk (Newton, Mass.) at five, while Wellesley's Kostikina was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Comi at six.
Wellesley has little rest for a tall order tomorrow, as the Blue will battle No. 1 Williams College. Clark returns to the court on Tuesday, heading to Springfield for a 4:00 p.m. NEWMAC match.
