Springfield, Mass. – Host Springfield College won its third straight match, posting a convincing 7-2 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.
The win boosts the Pride's record to 4-3, 2-3 in league play while the Cougars fall to 2-6, 0-2.
Springfield opened up the afternoon with two victories in doubles action. At No. 2 doubles, Stephanie Foster and Rachel London picked up an 8-1 win, while Sydney Streimer and Alanna Grady cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 3.
Clark was able to get a doubles point at No. 1 where Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.) and Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) outlasted Melanie Thulin and Ariana Shemms, 9-7.
The Pride then sealed the win with five of the six singles decisions. Streimer posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, followed by a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 by Thulin.
Sachs provided the Cougars lone singles win, collecting a hard fought 6-1, 5-7, 8-6 win over London.
Clark will wrap up the week with home contests against Worcester State on Thursday and Emerson College on Saturday.
