Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Worcester State swept all three doubles matches en route to a 7-2 win over Clark University in non-league women's tennis action on Thursday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.
The win for the Lancers is their fifth in their last six matches, pushing their overall record to 5-3, while the Cougars have dropped three straight to fall to 2-7.
WSU came out and got the doubles wins with relative ease, beginning with an 8-3 win for Meg Shepard (Middletown, Conn.) and Shelby Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) over Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine).
That was followed by Danielle Candeleri (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) knocking off Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Ellie Bakalchuk (Newton, Mass.) 8-2 at No. 2.
The Lancers completed the sweep when Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, Conn.) teamed up with Laura Sarkis (West Springfield, Mass.) to move past Jen Comi (Norwich, Vt.) and Molly Igo (Clinton, Mass.) at No. 3 with a score of 8-3.
Clark collected both of its wins in singles action where Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.) topped Candeleri, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 and Kravetz registered a straight set win over Shepard, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3.
Things continued to roll for Worcester State, however, as Jankins collected a 6-4, 7-5 win over Hughes, at No. 2 and Miranda Biron (Webster, Mass.) had a little trouble with Bakalchuk at No. 5 (7-6 (7-3), 6-2) but eventually prevailed.
Michanczyk and Sarkis, meanwhile both posted straight set wins and No. 4 and No. 6 respectively for the Lancers.
Clark returns to the court on Saturday with a New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup against Emerson, while WSU visits Little East foe Rhode Island College on Saturday as well.
