Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Simmons College posted an impressive 9-0 win over host Clark University in non-league women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.
With the win, the Sharks improve to 3-1 while the Cougars fall to 1-2.
In doubles action, Margaret Teague and Meghan Cokely paired to defeat Rose Burberry-Martin (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Sarah Sachs (Branford, Conn.) 8-1 in the number one spot, while Theresa Reinhard and Sofie Epshtein teamed up at the number two position to defeat Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine), 8-0.
The Sharks then completed the sweep with Kristi Mielbye and Rachael Downey registering an 8-1 victory over Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Ellie Bakalchuck (Newton, Mass.).
Up 3-0, the Sharks continued to dominate in singles play. Reinhard won her first match at the number one position, defeating Sachs 6-4, 6-3 and Cokely swept Hughes, 6-0, 6-0 at #2.
Epshtein and Downey each posted 6-0, 6-0 victories at number three and number four singles, respectively and Cathy Baker (Simsbury, Conn.) added her second victory of the year over Kravetz.
Completing the shutout was sophomore Katie Crowley, who won 6-1, 6-1 over Bakalchuck.
Clark will look to snap its two-match losing streak when it visits Nichols College on Thursday.
