Box Score Boston, Mass. – Visiting Clark University controlled the glass and forced 18 turnovers en route to a 52-42 win over host Emerson College in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Wednesday evening.
The win for the Cougars is their second straight as they improve to 6-8 overall and 3-6 in league contests. For the Lions, meanwhile, they slip to 5-8 and 2-7 in conference contests.
Clark held a 41-27 edge in rebounds as Esther Cohn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) pulled down a game-high 11 – her third consecutive contest with double figure rebounds.
The first half saw both teams take a while to click on offense with the Lions shooting 27 percent from the floor and the Cougars connecting on just eight of 23 attempts.
Clark eventually went into the half ahead 21-19 but found itself trailing 24-23 early in the second half when they rattled off ten straight points capped by a Gwyneth Ivory (Ashland, Mass.) inside hoop to take a 33-24 edge.
A Catherine Cloutier jumper had the Clark lead down to 35-30 with a little more than ten minutes to play but free throws from Emily Reilly (Marlboro, Mass.) and Olivia Lyons (Belmont, Mass.) to go along with a Megan Grondin (Cumberland, Maine) jumper put the game away as the lead ballooned back to ten at 41-31.
Emerson never got closer than eight the rest of the way as the Cougars secured back-to-back wins since the first two games of the season.
Neither team shot better than 30 percent from the field for the game and they combined to go just 3-for-21 from behind the arc.
Kristin Brice totaled a game-best 18 points for Emerson to go with seven rebounds and Maria Santora came off the bench to join her in double figures with ten.
Reilly paced Clark with 15 points and seven boards, while Lyons and Grondin combined for 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Cougars will play next on Saturday when they travel to Babson for a meeting with the Beavers at 1:00 p.m.
