Condon & Cohn Lead Cougars Past Emerson, 71-49

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Anchored by a defense that forced 25 turnovers and held Emerson College to 30 percent shooting, Clark University sprinted to a 71-49 win over the visiting Lions in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Wednesday evening.

The win for the Cougars pushes their record to 10-14 overall and 7-12 in league play, while Emerson drops their third straight to slip to 8-16 and 4-15 in conference contests.

Ahead by just four points with less than three minutes to play in the first half, the Scarlet and White closed the half on a 10-0 run as Emily Reilly (Marlboro, Mass.) scored the final eight points to send the hosts into the locker room ahead 36-22.

The momentum stayed on Clark's side in the first ten minutes of the second half and when Ashleigh Condon (Hull, Mass.) scored on back-to-back possessions, the score was 54-33.

Emerson mounted a brief run a few minutes later as Elizabeth Horan (Ashland, Mass.) connected on a three-pointer and Olivia Still (Hebron, Conn.) finished inside to cut the lead down to 17 at 57-40.

Clark then put the game out of reach, scoring 12 of the game's next 17 points, highlighted by consecutive baskets from Condon and Esther Cohn (Chapel Hill, N.C.).

Condon led all scorers with a season-best 20 points, to go along with six rebounds and two assists. Cohn, meanwhile, helped the Cougars control the glass, finishing with her fourth double-double of the season with ten points and 17 rebounds. She also added four assists and a pair of steals in 31 minutes of action.

Megan Grondin (Cumberland, Maine) also reached double figures for Clark, totaling 11 points and five boards and Reilly added 13 points and eight boards of her own.

Kristin Brice (Indiana, Pa.) led the way for the Lions, notching a double-double of her own with 12 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Emerson will close of their first season in the NEWMAC with a home contest against Smith on Saturday.

By virtue of MIT defeating Babson tonight, Clark has now been eliminated from postseason play. The Cougars will play their final contest of the 2013-14 season on Saturday at home against Babson.
