Box Score 3 Auburndale, Fla. – In one of the rarest of occurrences, Clark University played parts or all of three games on Friday afternoon. After knocking off PSU-Abington 7-3, early in the day, the Cougars finished a halted game with Eastern Mennonite and then played a regularly scheduled contest against EMU. Clark defeated the Lions 7-3, but fell to the Royals 14-6 and 6-3.
The original game was halted in the bottom of the fifth on Thursday due to heavy rains and was picked up on Friday evening with the Cougars ahead, 5-1, highlighted by the first career homerun from Zach Richall (Tyngsboro, Mass.).
When the game resumed the Royals erupted for 11 more runs and ten more hits in the inning to take a 12-5 lead. They added two more in the sixth and the Cougars could only scratch across one more run to come up with the final score.
In the nightcap, the EMU pitching tandem of Ryan Henschel and Kyle Salladay handcuffed Clark at the plate, holding them to just three hits and one earned run in the 6-3 win.
Kyle Armstrong put the Royals on the board in the top of the first with a two-run single off of Cougar starter Austin Knief (Scarsdale, N.Y.). They added single runs in the second and third before Clark pushed a run across on a Jack Kenney (Saco, Maine) RBI groundout.
Two more EMU runs came in the top of the fourth but Andrew Doolittle (Hebron, Conn.) drove in one of his own in the bottom of the frame.
Knief took the loss for the Cougars, who got an excellent relief performance from David Corn (Juno Beach, Fla.) who tossed three hitless innings with four strikeouts.
David Eschen (New York, N.Y.), Richall and Daniel Lima (Manchester, Conn.) had the Scarlet and White's three hits while Lima swiped three bases.
