Worcester, Mass. – Nichols College swept through the doubles matches en route to a 7-2 win over Clark University in non-league women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts. The win for the Bison (1-0) marks the third straight season that they have defeated the Cougars (0-1) by the same score.
Emma Carey and Meghan Corr kicked off the afternoon by topping Clark newcomers Sarah Clay (Ossipee, N.H.) and Leah Siegel-Reamer (Pawtucket, R.I.), 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. That was followed by Alanna Judd (Westboro, Mass.) and Lauren Candia (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) posting an 8-2 triumph over Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) at No. 1.
Clark's Stephanie Gallant (Charlton, Mass.) and Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) pushed Ashley Dallaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Daniela Soldarriaga (Medllien, Colombia) to a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles, but the Nichols duo eventually collected the win, 9-8 (7-5).
The Cougars got on the board during singles play when Long moved past Cristina Szepanski (Windsor Locks, Conn.) 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 and Snyder notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Carey at No. 2.
Nichols, however, breezed through the other four singles matchups by 6-0, 6-0 scores beginning with Lindsay Benoit (Holden, Mass.) knocking off Kravetz at No. 2, Katie Malloy dropping Gallant at No. 3, Michelle Keklik (Stratford, Conn.) rolling by Clay at No. 5 and finally Tiffany Romano (South Windsor, Conn.) sweeping by Siegel-Reamer at No. 6.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday with the Cougars visiting Rhode Island College and the Bison playing host to Wheaton.
