Leicester, Mass. - Visiting Clark University posted their most impressive performance in 2014, registering a 9-0 win over Worcester-area rival Becker College in non-conference women's tennis action on Thursday afternoon.
The win lifts the Cougars record to 2-4, while the Hawks sink to 1-6.
In top doubles action, Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Stephanie Gallant (Charlton, Mass.) downed Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.), 8-1.
Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) held off Livia Smith (Worcester, Mass.) and Chenylle Mercado (Tyngsborough, Mass.) in number two doubles, 8-3.
The Cougars completed the sweep of doubles when newcomers Bichtron Nguyen (Worcester, Mass.) and Fiorella Hernandez (Managua, Nicaragua) bested Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I.) and Mary Nketiah (Lawrenceville, N.J.), 8-1.
Clark kept its feet on the gas during singles action. Long earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lord and then Kravetz clawed her way through number two singles with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Andrade.
Snyder breezed through number three singles play, defeating Smith in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 and in number four singles action, Gallant powered past Chenylle Mercado, 6-1, 6-4.
Sarah Clay (Ossipee, N.H.) and Hernandez earned clean victories for Clark in the five and six singles sets, respectively.
Clark wraps up its busy week with a home contest on Saturday against NEWMAC rival Wellesley College. First serve is slated for noon.
