Box Score Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Babson College scored 50 second half points and forced 27 Clark University turnovers and the Beavers rolled to a convincing 83-47 win over the Cougars on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action at the Kneller Athletic Center.
Babson won for the third time in their last four games to improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in league play, while the Scarlet and White have now dropped six straight to slip to 3-10.
Giovanna Pickering proved to be the catalyst for the Beaver offense and defense, racking up eye-popping totals of 19 points, nine steals, six assists and four rebounds in her 31 minutes of action.
Clark, meanwhile, was led by Torieanna St. Pierre (Portsmouth, N.H.), who finished with a career-best 14 points on 6-for-11.
After St. Pierre scored on a swooping left-handed layup with less than nine minutes to play in the first half giving the Cougars an 18-17 lead, Babson closed the half on a 16-6 run to take a 33-24 halftime lead.
The Beavers then opened the second half with a 30-10 burst over the first ten minutes capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Taylor Russell and Erin Young, making the score, 63-34.
Babson's lead ballooned to as many as 40 late in the game as they won for the 12th time in the last 13 meetings between the two teams.
In addition to Pickering, Marissa Cicchetti added 17 points and four assists while Linnett Graber chipped in with 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Cougars struggled shooting the entire afternoon, connecting on just 29 percent of their field goal attempts (17-for-57) and making only 38 percent of their free throws (8-for-21).
Babson held a 55-49 edge in rebounds and converted those 27 Clark miscues into 35 points.
Olivia Lyons (Belmont, Mass.) finished with a hard-fought 11 points and nine rebounds, while Sami Dokus (Littleton, Mass.) had eight points, a career-high 13 rebounds but committed seven turnovers.
Clark will look to return to the win column on Tuesday when they visit Springfield, while the Green and White hosts Wellesley.
