Norton, Mass. – Wheaton College swept all three doubles matches and in the end that was difference as the host Lyons posted a 6-3 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

The loss is the final match of the season for the Scarlet and White, who improved dramatically under new head coach Daniel Herbst. They finish the regular season at 6-8, including an impressive 5-2 at home.

Caroline Stanclift and Stassy Furber opened up the match with an 8-5 win over Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) and Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) at No. 2 doubles and that was followed up by a 9-8 (7-4) tiebreaker win by Arielle Klopsis and Connor O'Keefe over Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) and Kera Snyder (Portland, Maine) at No. 3.

No. 1 also came down to a tiebreaker as the Cougars combination of Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Emily Shuman (Needham, Mass.) were edged out by Wheaton's Izzy Gorham and Caroline DiNicola-Fawley, 9-8 (7-5).

Despite being down 3-0 after doubles, Clark answered the bell and won three of the five singles matches.

Furber opened up singles with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Hughes at No. 3, but the Scarlet and White won the next two beginning with Long dropping Gorham, 6-4, 6-0 and Shuman outlasting DiNicola-Fawley, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.

Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) made quick work of Klopsis at No. 6, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 win, keeping the Cougars close, but the Lyons won the final two matches beginning with a 6-2, 6-2 win by Stanclift over Snyder at No. 4.

The match of the afternoon was at No. 5 where O'Keefe and Horowitz were locked in a battle that eventually saw O'Keefe prevail, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6).
