Cougars Fall To Mount Holyoke, 9-0

Paxton, Mass. – In match that was relocated because of the weather, visiting Mount Holyoke won its second straight match with a hard-fought 9-0 win over Clark University in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Saturday at the Paxton Tennis Centre.

The win for the Lyons boosts their overall record to 6-2 but more importantly, they jump to 4-2 in conference matches, positioning themselves for a possible home match in the upcoming league tournament.

For the Scarlet and White, meanwhile, they have now dropped back-to-back decisions by identical scores to slip to 5-7 overall and are now 1-5 in NEWMAC contests with two league matches remaining.

Doubles action began with Madison Chen and Amy Rosen easily getting by Kera Snyder(Portland, Maine) and Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.), 8-1 at No. 3. That was followed by Alexa Colas and Isihta Tiberwal besting the Cougar combination of Phoebe Hughes (Parkland, Fla.) and Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) 8-3 at No. 2.

The Lyons completed the doubles sweep with a back and forth tiebreaker win at No. 1 withAyame Yazawa and Margaux Holloschutz outlasting Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) andEmily Schuman (Needham, Mass.), 9-8 (7-5).

Things continued rolling in Mount Holyoke's favor as Rosen and Clara Wang topped Kravetz andMisa Mai (Sanford, Maine) by 6-0, 6-0 scores at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.

Colas made quick work of Horowitz at No 4, taking down the Clark first-year, 6-3, 6-0 while Yazawa also had a straight set win over Long at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1.

Tiberwal also had a straight set win coming at No. 3 as she worked by Snyder, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8), while Holloschutz and Shuman each took a 6-0 set at No. 2 before Holloschutz took the third, 10-8.

The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday when they play host to Smith College in their final home match of the season at 5:00 p.m.
