Engineers' Second Half Surge Too Much For Cougars, 69-43

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – Sabrina Drammis (Hilton Head, S.C.) had an excellent all-around performance and visiting MIT used a huge third quarter to race away from Clark University, 69-43, in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Kneller Athletic Center.

In addition to her game-high 20 points, Drammis added nine rebounds and seven assists, sending the Engineers to their first 2-0 start in conference play since the 2002-03 season.

Turning Point:
MIT (3-2 overall) was only ahead by seven at the half (31-24) when MIT took control in the third quarter. They outscored the hosts, 24-8, including opening the period on an 18-5 run that featured six consecutive points for Drammis pushing the Engineer advantage to 49-29.

Conversely, Clark (2-5, 0-2 NEWMAC) went 1-for-7 from the field in the period, committed nine of their 27 turnovers and went just 6-for-10 from the charity stripe.

Standout Stars:
MIT's Kristen Ngan (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with a career-high 16 points, to go along with six rebounds and four steals in support of Drammis, while Maya Ramachandran (Fremont, Calif.), Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.), Micayla Flores (Chadds Ford, Pa.) all chipped in with eight points.

Clark was paced by a very active Ogechi Ezemma (Hope Valley, R.I.), who came off the bench and totaled 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes. Sam O'Gara (Worcester, Mass.) was the only other Cougar in double figures, adding ten points, three rebounds and three assists.

Inside The Numbers:
The Engineers shot 52 percent from the field for the game, including an extremely efficient 18-for-30 in the second half (60 percent). MIT took advantage of the Scarlet and White's turnover total, turning those 27 miscues into an eye-popping 32 points.

Series History:
Clark leads the all-time series – which dates back to the 1974-75 season – 27-7, but with tonight's loss, have now dropped three straight to the Engineers, including the last two in Worcester.

Next On The Docket:
Both teams are back in action on Saturday with home conference contests. MIT plays host to WPI at 3:00 p.m. while the Scarlet and White will welcome Emerson College to the Kneller Athletic Center at 1:00 p.m.
