Box Score New London, Conn. – Amanda Roy knocked down four three-pointers and finished with a career-high 14 points off the bench as Coast Guard extended its school record winning streak to ten with an 82-32 win over Clark University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball game on Wednesday evening.
Coast Guard improves to 17-7 overall and 11-4 in conference play while Clark drops to 5-19 overall and 2-13 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Meghan Fornaro (Charlton, Mass.) led all scorers with 17 points, connecting on three of four from behind the arc to give her 101 career three-pointers.
Freshman Gill Gerton had 13 points off the bench while senior Leigha Steinbeck and junior Torie Sutherland each added ten points in the win. Fornaro and Sutherland each had a game-high eight rebounds.
Coast Guard led from the opening tip, making a season-high 13 three-pointers (13-for-28) after making 11 on Monday night.
The Bears led 15-1 with 12:28 left in the first half and led by as many as 23 in the first half and 28-5 with 6:04 left in the half before settling for a 35-16 halftime edge.
The Bears then used a 24-0 run in the second half to take a 68-19 lead with 8:55 left.
Coast Guard shot 51.6 percent from the floor (32-62) while the Cougars were cold from the outset, making just nine overall field goals and going a frigid 1-for-24 from behind the arc.
Torieana St. Pierre (Portsmouth, N.H.) came off the bench and scored a team best eight points and Aretha Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) contributed seven.
The Cougars wrap up their 2014-15 season on Saturday with a home contest against Emerson College. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
