Cougars Downed By MIT, 9-0

Cambridge, Mass. – Visiting Clark University had its brief two-match winning streak come to an end as MIT cruised to a 9-0 win over the upstart Cougars on Tuesday afternoon in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action.

At No. 1, Clark (5-6, 1-4 NEWMAC) saw its team of sophomore Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and freshman Emily Shuman (Needham, Mass.) grab one game, but that was it as sophomore Dora Tzeng (Fremont, Calif.) and Krystal Lai (Irvine, Calif.) took an 8-1 decision.

Rena Liu (Oak Hill, Va.) started things off for MIT in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) to put the Engineers a point away from clinching the match. Zhuang picked up that victory for MIT at No. 3, taking down Kera Snyder (South Portland, Maine), 6-1, 6-0.

Ava Soleimany (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Wendi Kong (Cupertino, Calif.) also won their matches at No. 6 and No. 2 respectively, by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Alana Peters (Kenilworth, Ill.) put another point in the MIT column with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 over Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.), while Sonya Das (Arden Hills, Minn.) wrapped things up for the Engineers with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Long in the No. 1 match.

Clark will move out of conference for its next match, hosting Roger Williams University on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
