Dudley, Mass. – The momentum from Tuesday's thrilling season-opening win dissipated rather quickly for the Clark University women's tennis team as they ran into an impressive Nichols College squad that handed the Cougars an 8-1 loss on Thursday afternoon.
The Bison, who have played for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship in each of the last three years, improved to 2-0 on the young season while the Scarlet and White see their record even out at 1-1.
Clark fell behind 3-0 after doubles and things didn't change much in singles, where all five of the Nichols victories came in straight sets.
The Cougars' lone win came at No. 2, where freshman Emily Shuman (Needham, Mass.) posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ashley Dellaire (East Bridgewater, Mass.).
Clark's third and final match of its busy opening week will take place on Saturday when they host Simmons College at 1:00 p.m.
