Eagles Hand Cougars 14-3 Setback

Box Score

Winter Haven, Fla. – Daniel Webster scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back, posting a 14-3 win over Clark University in non-league baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Chain Of Lakes Park.

The Eagles got a stellar outing on the mound from Curtis Hamilton, who tossed 7.2 innings, allowing just two hits, no earned runs and fanned three.

For the Cougars, the loss drops their overall record to 4-4 in advance of their final four games beginning with Thursday's twinbill with Gordon College.

Clark starter Jeremy Brent (Dayton, N.J.), making his first collegiate appearance, allowed five straight singles to start the game that resulted in four runs and an error accounted for the other before he was replaced by Joshua Dobratz (Southington, Conn.). Dobratz stopped the Daniel Webster rally by inducing a double play and then recorded a strikeout to get out of the inning.

The Eagles tacked on a run in the third and then three more in the fourth to go ahead 9-0 before the Cougars finally got on the board in the fifth.

Clark loaded the bases when Michael Eglow (Delmar, N.Y.) reached on an error, Zach Richall (Tyngsboro, Mass.) walked and Chris Dibble (Manchester, Mass.) was hit by a pitch. Eglow came home on a passed ball and the Richall crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

Ahead 9-2, the Eagles kept scoring, getting two runs in the fifth, one more in the sixth and then two more in the eighth.

The Cougars got their other run when Eglow blasted his first homerun of the season over the left field fence.

Clark and the Fighting Scots start their doubleheader beginning at 9:00 AM at Lake Myrtle Field #8 in Auburndale, Fla.
