Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University faced little resistance in their first of four spring matches, dispatching of Plymouth State by a 9-0 score on a blustery but sunny Saturday afternoon on the Corash Tennis Courts.

The win for the Scarlet and White inches their overall record closer to .500 at 7-8 under first-year head coach Daniel Herbst.

The Panthers, meanwhile, now sit at 9-7 on the year after making the journey to Worcester for the second time this season, having already defeated Worcester State.

Clark rolled through doubles as Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Misa Mai (Sanford, Maine) blanked Megan Wallace (Moultonborough, N.H.) and Rachel Gustafson (Belchertown, Mass.) with an 8-0 win at No. 2 and then Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.) teamed up with Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, Mass.) to drop Kelley Corson (Exeter, N.H.) and Peyton Smith (Stuttgart, Germany) 8-3 at No. 3.

The battle of the afternoon, however, came at No. 1 doubles where the Cougar combination of Emily Shuman (Needham, Mass.) and Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, Colo.) were locked in a battle with Irene Ireme (Concord, N.H.) and Nikki Lund. Shuman and Horowitz eventually prevailed, topping the Panther duo in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4).

Ahead 3-0 heading into singles, Clark used a 6-2, 6-0 win by Shuman over Lund at No. 2 and a Mai 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Megan Wheeler (Manchester, N.H.) to secure the win.

Long rolled to victory at No. 1, besting Ireme, 6-1, 6-3 and then Tarbox made quick work of Corson at No. 6, 6-3, 6-1.

Clark wrapped up the match as Horowitz and knocked off Gustafson, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and Kravetz took care of Lily O'Connor (Salem, N.H.) at No. 5, 7-5, 6-3.

The Cougars are next in action on Tuesday when they host Worcester State on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
