WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's tennis team posted a 6-3 win over the Clark University Cougars Thursday evening at the Corash Tennis Courts located on the campus of Clark.
Worcester State began the match out with two back-to-back doubles wins as Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, Mass.) and Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.) defeated
Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I) and Katie Benson (Hudson, Mass.) by a score of 8-4, and Alexis Silk (Greenfield, Mass.) and Rachel Green (Worcester, Mass.) downed
Chloe Dunnell and Maggie Tarbox by a score of 8-2. The Lancers took one loss in doubles, as they had to forfeit the No. 3 slot.
Clark's Gates sercured a point at number one singles with a win over Khafaga and and Clark scored its second and third point via forfeit.
Going into the singles competition ahead 2-1, Worcester State's No. 5 Isabel Badeau (Cumberland, R.I.) and No. 2 Taylor came away with 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2 victories for the 4-1 push. The Lancers clinched the match at the No. 4 spot when Green defeated Kaylyn Landahl (Brookfield, IL) 6-4 and 6-2 to put the Lancers ahead 5-1.
The Lancers conclude their 2016-17 seasons with the spring match and ends the season at 8-7. Clark fell to 5-11 and will end the spring season against Johnson and Wales on Sunday, April 30.
