Women's Tennis Drops at Wheaton

THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Clark University women's tennis team battled with the Lyons of Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Sunday afternoon. Despite the hard-fought match the Lyons ultimately clinched the conference victory over the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Clark's Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Jillian Skulsky (Marshfield, Mass.) battled at No. 1 doubles but ultimately fell to Isabelle Garvanne (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Ines de Bracamonte (Sunny Isles, Fla.), 8-4.

-Wheaton earned an 8-2 win from Jodi Katz (Needham, Mass.) and Connor O'Keefe (Lutz, Fla.) at No. 2 doubles and completed the sweep when Harley Swainston (Hudsonville, Mich.) and Allison Burton (Hingham, Mass.) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.) and Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.).

-de Bracamonte earned the Lyons their fourth point of the day with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 1 singles position, while Garvanne solidified the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 2 spot.

-Swainston earned a 6-3, 6-1 as the No. 4, which was followed by a 6-2, 6-3 (No. 5) win from Jordyn Paul (Belchertown, Mass.), and 6-2, 6-3 win from Burton (No. 3), and 6-1, 6-3 victory from senior Arielle Klopsis (West Islip, N.Y.) in the No. 6 spot.

-Clark travels to Mount Holyoke on Tuesday, March 17 for a NEWMAC match at 4:30 p.m.

-Wheaton returns to action on Tuesday, April 17 at Babson College for a 4 p.m. NEWMAC contest.
