FITCHBURG, Mass. – Clark University extended its winning streak to three straight games on Wednesday as sophomore Brian Brennan (Stoneham, Mass.) delivered the golden-goal in the 101st minute of action to lift the Cougars to a 2-1 double overtime non-conference victory at Fitchburg State University.

How it Happened:

Clark University earned a 1-0 lead at the 43:58 mark as junior Jonathan Guilherme (Oxford, Conn.) connected with senior Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) on the weak-side of the Falcons defense, allowing Sheridan to slot in a point-blank shot to pick up his second goal of the season.

Shortly after the halftime break, Fitchburg State knotted the score as Zackary Buckland launched his throw-in from the sideline into the box, with first-year Alexander Loyd re-directing the bouncing ball into the net for the 1-1 score at the 53rd minute.

The score would hold until the end of regulation, but not without the Cougars offense doing all it can to pull ahead as they led the shot total 11-4 in the second half. Clark was able to continue the aggression on the offensive end during the extra-time, firing five shots in the first overtime period.

The Cougars were able to break the 1-1 deadlock in the 102nd minute of play when Brennan took advantage of a nifty back-heel pass by senior Charlie Lane (Southboro, Mass.) with the sophomore burying a one-on-one chance inside the box to pick up his sixth goal of the season.

Caleb Rosenthal-Vincenti (Stony Brook, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate victory between the pipes as the first-year stonewalled a pair of shots through 56:23 minutes of action while Marco White (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) recorded a scoreless half with three saves for the Cougars.

Clark controlled the shot total by a 27-9 margin throughout the game while putting 16 shots on target to just five from the Falcons. The Cougs also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
