FRANKLIN, Mass. – Clark University women's basketball fell in the consolation round of the Dean Tip-Off Tournament as Regis College received point contributions from 11 different players en route to a 72-52 final at the Pieri Gymnasium.

How it Happened

Sophomores Ginny Benbow (Durham, Conn.) and Hallie Johnson (Princeton, Mass.) did their part for the Cougars as the duo matched one another for the game-high in points with 16 apiece while also combining for 13 rebounds. Sophomore Emily Sifferlen (North Andover, Mass.) continued her hot start to the season, tallying 11 points to round out the Cougars' scorers in double-figures.

Junior Hannah Favaloro (Blackstone, Mass.) set the tone down low with a team-high nine rebounds while sophomore Cam Richey (Upton, Mass.) and Benbow aided the effort on the glass with five and four rebounds respectively.

The Cougars opened up the action with back-to-back three-pointers from Sifferlen and Johnson to give the team an early 6-5 advantage. With 6:25 left in the frame, Johnson canned her second from deep of the quarter, but the Pride responded with six unanswered points to grab a 16-12 lead on the scoreboard.

With a 21-17 margin to start the second quarter, Regis gained separation as a three-pointer from Nikki Bitinaitis triggered a 9-2 run over the first three minutes of the frame. A lay-up by Sifferlen allowed the Cougars to go on a brief 6-2 run of their own, cutting the deficit 32-25 with 3:22 left in the frame, but Regis re-extended in the final minutes for a 12-point lead into the break.

The teams were evenly matched in the third quarter, finishing the ten-minute period deadlocked at 13 points apiece. Benbow and Johnson combined for eight points for the Cougars over that time while Arie Searcy and Katryna Veasey totaled 11 for the Pride.

Regis pulled away for good in the fourth quarter, putting together its best offensive frame of the contest. Marissa Prall got things started in the session, sinking a three-pointer to spark a seven-point unanswered stretch for a 57-38 Pride advantage. Regis maintained a 13-8 scoring advantage over the remaining 4:17 of play, sealing the 72-52 victory.

The 16-point outing from Johnson tied her career-high set back on November 10 while Benbow also equaled her career-high of 16 points achieved as a first-year on February 9, 2019.
