Baseball Soars to Victory Over Falcons, 8-3

THE BASICS

-Score: Clark University 8, Fitchburg State University 3

-The Lead: The Clark University baseball team claimed a non-conference victory over the Falcons of Fitchburg State University on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars used a six-run bottom of the seventh inning to claim the final 8-3 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Falcons pulled ahead 2-0 with an RBI from junior Brandon Lefebvre (Leominster, Mass.) in the second and an unearned run scored by sophomore Noah Cordeau (Melrose, Mass.) in the top of the third.

-Clark tied it up in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore Chris Radovic (Fairfield, Conn.) heated things up with a homerun over the left center field fence and sophomore James Huber (Rochester, N.Y.) singled to right center before scoring on a balk (2-0).

-The Cougars used six runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull ahead 8-2. Junior Rudy Sarro (New Fairfield, Conn.) reached on a fielding error by the Falcons before stealing second and third to put himself in scoring position. With two outs junior Collin Porter (Brookfield, Conn.) doubled down the left field line to score Sarro. Radovic sent a hard hit ball to short stop to advance Porter to third before a single to center from Huber scored him for the 4-2 lead. Senior Zach Kelley (Hadley, Mass.) earned two RBI with a single to left center that scored junior Andrew Thibault (Nashua, N.H.) and Radovic to extend their lead to 6-2. Junior Branden Nevius (Mansfield, Mass.) and sophomore Steven Mooney (Buffalo, N.Y.) put up RBI singles for the 8-2 lead heading into the eighth.

-Junior Joshua Macomber (Berkley, Mass.) homered in the top of the ninth to score Fitchburg State's final run of the game as Clark held on for the final 8-3 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Huber went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored in the victory while Radovic finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored for Clark.

-Macomber led Fitchburg State at the plate going 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

-Clark finished with 11 hits in the victory while the Falcons put up four.

-First year Jafar Vohra (Shelton, Conn.) earned the victory on the mound for Clark and improves to 2-2 on the season. He pitched seven innings allowing just three hits, two runs scored (one earned), and striking out nine batters.

-Senior Adam Somers (Framingham, Mass.) pitched the opening six innings of the game and struck out ten batters. Sophomore Shaun Gamelin (West Kingston, R.I.) took the loss on the mound for the Falcons and falls to 1-3 on the season.

UP NEXT

-Clark hosts Rhode Island College on Thursday, April 25th in a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m.

-Fitchburg State hosts Framingham State for a doubleheaders on the same day starting at 2:00 p.m.
