How it Happened

Collin Porter (Brookfield, Conn.) continued the strong start to his season with his fourth multi-hit game of the year following a 2-for-4 performance including an RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Zachary Gitschier (Lowell, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs on a 2-for-4 performance at the plate while senior Dylan Horn (Sterling, Conn.) extended his hitting streak to seven games.

For the Prairie Wolves, Riley Ward enjoyed a 2-for-4 day at the dish while tossing 5.2 innings with one earned run coming off of six hits. Unger finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and the game-winning RBI.

Clark grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth as Porter laced a double before Gitschier came through with a two-out RBI single. Nebraska Wesleyan responded in the home-half of the inning despite no hits as a bases-loaded walk to Wyatt Stute knotted the game at 1-1.

In the top of the sixth, the team's traded runs once again with James Huber (Rochester, N.Y.) coming through for the Cougars with a two-out triple to bring Porter all the way around from first base. The Prairie Wolves came right back in the bottom half of the frame as an error at third base allowed Unger to score in unearned fashion.

Clark was able to take a late lead in the top of the eighth with a double from Andrew Thibault (Nashua, N.H.) putting a runner in scoring position. With two outs, Porter delivered once again, driving a single to plate Thibault before later scoring himself on a double from Gitschier to make it a 4-2 lead.

The persistent Prairie Wolves cut the gap in the bottom half of the inning with Unger leading off with a single and later scoring on a ground out. In the bottom of the ninth, Aaron Nichols put a charge in the team with a lead-off double before switching spots with Ward on an RBI double to tie it up. Nebraska Wesleyan walked off three batters later as Unger laced a single to plate Ward for the 5-4 final.

Sophomore Jafar Vohra (Shelton, Conn.) received the no-decision in his third start of the season, providing 4.1 innings working around two hits and four walks with one earned run and six strikeouts. Junior right-hander Sean Savage (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) offered 1.2 innings of one-hit relief.
