Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. - Clark men's soccer (7-5-3, 1-1-3 NEWMAC) recorded a thrilling 3-1 win over Emerson (2-9-2, 0-5-0 NEWMAC) on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
Prior to the contest, Clark honored 14 seniors, who have contributed 38 wins, two NEWMAC Tournament appearances, and reached the NEWMAC Semifinals on both occasions. The 14 players recognized were Marco White, Melvin Vincent, Taro Makihara, Cooper Richards, Greg Amador, Daniel Moura, Patrick Clark, Brian Brennan, Andrew Pimental, Derek Jones, Alex Maiorano, Alex Nicholson, Byron Lind, and Javier Amezcua.
Coach O'Toole's Thoughts
"We collected a very important three points in conference today from a wonderful team performance," said head coach Matt O'Toole following the win. "We honored all of our seniors this weekend and look to continue our success next Saturday."
How it Happened
- Graduate student Patrick Clark created an early chance in the sixth minute from the left side of the pitch that was stopped by Jacob Ramer to keep the score tied at 0-0 early.
- Nicholson recorded the Cougars next chance in the 19th minute from the right side of the box that was saved before Patrick Clark gave Clark the 1-0 advantage with a shot to the left that beat Ramer in the 24th minute.
- The Lions got a goal back in the 28th minute from Ben Deeming and Lind created the Cougars final dangerous chance of the half with a header off a corner serviced in by first-year William Lopez that went just wide of the mark of a 1-1 tie at the break.
- Vincent came up with a pair of critical saves early in the second half off shots from Aidan Ferguson to keep the game tied.
- The Cougars then took the lead when Patrick Clark serviced a ball into the box and found the foot of Brennan and Brennan beat the goalie to his right to take a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute.
- Lopez almost extended the lead in the 72nd minute, but had his shot saved before Patrick Clark did extend the advantage to 3-1 in the 82nd minute off a pass in from Lopez as the Cougars recorded a 3-1 conference win.
