QUINCY, Mass.- Clark women's tennis (4-3) secured a 6-3 victory over Eastern Nazarene (2-11) at the Eastern Nazarene Tennis Courts. The win was new head coach Arsenio Culver's first with the women's tennis program.
Doubles
• Sophomore Hannah Russo and first-year Leilani Brown got the scarlet and white on the board early with a convincing 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles. The forehands and volleys from the pair were too much for the Lions to handle.
• The Lions would tie the match back up with a victory at No. 1 doubles. Senior Grayson LaCroix and junior Maeve McEnroe lost 8-4 for the Cougars.
• ENC took a 2-1 match lead with a back and forth 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles over Clark senior Mahek Deora and junior Ibeth Alvarracin.
Singles
• Russo and Brown made short work of their opponents, each using power and placement to control the match. Both women had a 6-0 set and helped the scarlet and white change the momentum of the match.
• At No. 4 singles McEnroe's consistency allowed her to make the most of opportunities, and lead her to find success in a 6-2, 6-1 win.
• LaCroix had a comeback at No. 2 singles to clinch the match for the Cougars. After leading in the first set, LaCroix's opponent came back to steal a 7-5 set. LaCroix buckled down and opened up the court with big forehands and aggressive groundstrokes coupled with touch volleys. The next two sets would be 6-2, 6-1 in favor of LaCroix, and gave Clark their winning fifth point.
• Junior Nardin Sayoufi came through for the scarlet and white at No. 5 singles, picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win.
• The Lions got their third point at No. 6 singles. Deora gave her all for Clark and was in the match until the final shot, ultimately falling just short. The final score was 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 for Eastern Nazarene.
What's Next
Clark hits the road Saturday for a match-up against UMass Boston. The match will begin at noon and take place at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts.
