BOSTON, Mass.- The Beacons of UMass Boston (8-5) overcame Clark (4-4) 5-0 from the Boston College High Tennis School Courts on Saturday. Despite the one-sided final score, the Cougars fought hard across the board, especially with multiple players making their debuts.
Doubles
• Playing at No. 3 doubles, first-years Emma Allen and Amy Marin made their debut for Clark, as UMass Boston took their first point of the day.
• No. 1 doubles saw a back and forth affair between the Beacons and Clark's duo of senior Grayson LaCroix and sophomore Hannah Russo. Clark lost the match 8-5.
• Finally at No. 2 doubles, juniors Maeve McEnroe and Nardin Sayoufi engaged in many long and entertaining rallies in their 8-6 loss.
Singles
• At No. 4 singles Sayoufi fought hard at the highest spot she'd played in the lineup. Sayoufi found success in the first set before falling 6-4, 6-1.
• Allen nearly pulled off an improbable comeback at No. 6. After dropping a 6-3 first set, the first-year stormed back to take the second 6-3. Despite being down 7-1 in a 10 point match tiebreaker, Allen nearly brought the match all the way back, showing impressive resolve in the 10-8 loss.
• Though none of the other matches singles concluded, LaCroix was up 6-1, 5-4 and was two points away from victory at the time of decision.
