WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's tennis team (1-8, 0-7 NEWMAC) played their final home match of the season and hosted their senior day game against Emerson (4-13, 1-6 NEWMAC) and battled with the Lions all nine games, but fell 5-4 on Friday afternoon from the Corash Tennis Courts.
Prior to the match, seniors Nardin Sayoufi, Liliya Georgitsa, and Maeve McEnroe were honored for their contributions to the Clark women's tennis program.
How it Happened
- Sayoufi and McEnroe opened the day with a convincing 8-3 victory in number three doubles over Jones and Londoner to give Clark a 1-0 lead.
- Sophomore Leilani Brown and first-year Merielle Kane extended the lead to 2-0 in the match with an 8-3 win in number two doubles against Steward and Stinson.
- Junior Hannah Russo and Georgitsa battled with Oglensky and McGovern in number one doubles and won six games before falling 8-6.
- Sayoufi also earned a win in singles coming away with a thrilling come-from-behind 4-6, 6-4, 7(11)-6(9) victory in number four singles.
- Georgitsa closed out the match with a three-set win against Oglensky in number two singles with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory.
- McEnroe took her number three singles match three sets, but fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to McGovern.
- Brown (No. 1), Kane (No. 5), and sophomore Emma Allen all won games in their singles matches, but were edged in their matches.
What's Next
The Cougars will close out their season with a road match against Wheaton beginning at 12:00 p.m.
