Boluwasefe John was named NEWMAC Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday morning.
This marks the second consecutive week that John has earned NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week and received his first Offensive Athlete of the Week accolade.
John (Corona, N.Y.) led the team with an average of 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals in two games played this week. In a 74-68 victory over Brandeis, John scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked two shots, while connecting on eight free throws. In Saturday's game against Nichols, John posted a double-double with a career-high 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while tallying five assists, four steals, two blocks, and made nine free throws.
On the season, John is averaging 14.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting 62.5 percent from the floor and has made 32 free throws. He has reached in double-figures in six of seven games played and tallied at least two blocks five times. The Cougars will open NEWMAC play on Wednesday night when they welcome MIT to the Kneller for a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
